Maybe it is theraputic in uncertain economic times to look back on simpler times. Of course different time periods in history are as similar as they are unique. The challenges that face each generation are formidable, and people work hard, worry, and do their best to overcome their obstacles.
These days, as people focus on the teetering economy, businesses are using creative concepts to generate interest and instill in people a sense that things will be alright. One way to do that is to think back on times now past, when living was easier, when simple pleasures were the best pleasures.
Marietta's Strand Theater has taken this approach.
Built in 1935 on Marietta's Cobb Square, the Strand was once a spotlight attraction for a night out. The theater attracted people dressed in their best clothes, who were ready for a night on the town. It has endured good times and bad, withstood numerous economic perks and disadvantages. Now, after a major renovation, it has re-opened and is using its classic appeal to offer people a trip back in time, when going to the theater was a highly anticipated event.
Now through the end of January, the Strand will host Smokey Joe's Cafe, a Broadway superstar that revisits the musical hits of the 50's and 60's. Future shows include the It Girl, the Pirates of Penzance, and Cabaret.
For more information, visit the Strand's website. |
